Description

The realization of the High-Speed railway system is one of the most important infrastructural investments of the last few decades; the development of the railway network is based on the ambitious goal of increasing the attractiveness and the competitiveness of rail transport in
comparison to other transport modes aiming to a sustainable mobility.

The Turin-Venice High Speed route with a total length of approximately 400 km, is part of the Trans-European Priority Corridor No. 5 (Trans-European Networks – Transport, TENT) connecting Spain to the Ukrainian border.

The technical & economic Feasibility study has been performed by NET with a multidisciplinary approach in cooperation with professors of the Universities Bocconi, Milano, and Federico II, Napoli. Various alternatives have been analyzed and compared evaluating the integration of the new railway line with the existing infrastructure system. Transport studies assessing the forecast of railway demand (passengers and goods), economic and financial feasibility and environmental impacts have been analyzed in order to define the most adequate layout.

The implementation of the High-Speed railway line along the Torino – Milano route has been planned in phases. At present the line is partially completed, with its Torino-Milano, Milano-Treviglio and Padova-Mestre sections already fully operational.

After the elaboration of the Feasibility Study for the new H-S railway line Torino – Venezia, NET Engineering was entrusted with the design of the railway infrastructure and of all the civil works included in the project.
In particular, NET developed the Preliminary Design, the Environmental Impact Assessment and verified the Detailed Design – provided by the General Contractor – of the two railroad sections Brescia – Verona (72 km) and Padova – Mestre (25 km) and of the two interconnections of East Brescia and West Verona (10 km).

The design of the railway line included bridges, viaducts and tunnels and required a detailed analysis of urban and environmental constraints.

The Padova-Mestre section is operating since March 2007: the separation between the long distance trains and the regional trains achieved through two new high-speed railway tracks (with a maximum speed of 220 Km/h) increased the potentiality of the line taking it from 240 to 350 trains a day, and the forecast of potentially managing up to 500 trains a day.
